The first National Collegiate Shag Dance Championship was held at “2001 Night Club” on Saturday night, January 29th 2011. Six colleges and universities entered for the bragging rights to the title. NC State, UNC Charlotte, University of SC, The College of Charleston, East Carolina University, and Coastal Carolina University.  Only one couple from each college were allowed to compete.

If you know of a couple who would fit the bill and be interested in dancing in our 2012 contest, please call Barry Thigpen at 843-222-6706 for further information.  Both male and female must be attending their by the date of the event and they can not be circuit competitors by having entered any major shag contests. They will dance to a record of at least one and a half minutes, may have a professional instruct them and there is no entry fee.

RULES & APPLICATION FORM

Collegiate Entry form

1.)Must be attending the college you are representing the date of the contest.

2.)  Must be relatively new to the dance, never competed in a sanctioned professional or Junior Shag Association competition.

3.)  Each participant will receive a complimentary room for the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) if needed. Room can not be used or assigned to others.

4.)  A contribution from the proceeds will be made to the “Beth Mitchell Memorial Scholarship” in the joint names of all the contestants each year.

5.)  No entry Fee required.

6.) 1st entry from a college is the school’s official entry. (Only one per school)
